There are eight groups and services reporting to the Chief Executive.
Prison Services
Operates the Department's 20 prisons. Prison Services provides the secure, safe and humane containment of prisoners while also aiming to reduce re-offending.

Community Probation & Psychological Services
Manages approximately 85,000 community-based sentences and orders per year and provides information and reports to judges and the New Zealand Parole Board to help in sentencing and release decisions.

Rehabilitation
Supports Prison Services and Community Probation & Psychological Services by helping the Department deliver services and programmes that successfully rehabilitate and reintegrate offenders.

Business Information & Planning
Provides business information, planning advice and financial services to senior managers across the Department, and develops and maintains policies and procedures for prudent use of financial resources.

Office of the Chief Executive
Manages key functions on behalf of the Chief Executive and incorporates Communications, Internal Audit, Inspectorate, Secretariat, Professional Standards Unit, Legal Services.

Organisational Development
Provides both strategic advice and day-to-day support and services to the Chief Executive and managers on structural and culture change, human resource management and development, employee health and safety, employee relations, employment law and internal communications.

Policy, Strategy & Research
Maintains a "whole of justice sector" perspective in developing high-level strategies that shape the Department's operational policies and practices.

Systems & Infrastructure
Provides a range of strategies and services that support the delivery of Corrections’ core business, including information technology, facilities management and administrative support services to the New Zealand Parole Board.
