The General Manager for Business Information & Planning provides strategic advice to the Chief Executive on:

  • Financial planning and performance
     
  • Development and implementation of the Department’s business strategy

The role includes the provision of business information, planning advice and financial services to senior managers across the Department, and the development and maintenance of policies and procedures for prudent use of financial resources.

The Business Information & Planning Group is also responsible for co-ordinating the Department’s central Procurement, Reporting, Monitoring, Select Committee, Statement of Intent and Annual Reports processes.

Business Information & Planning employs around 275 staff located across sites and at Corrections’ Head Office in Wellington.

The General Manager Business Information & Planning is John Bole.

Corporate Finance
Corporate Finance coordinates the preparation of external accountability requirements for the Budget Estimates, monthly reports and Annual Reports and is responsible for establishing relationships with Treasury, Audit Office and the State Services Commission on these matters.

The group has the responsibility to oversee the production of year-end financial statements as required by the Public Finance Act 1989 for inclusion in annual reports.

Corporate Finance also develops systems to forecast cash flows, establish capital plans which meet the strategic objectives of the organisations, and manage an internal budget process which matches available resources to organisational priorities.

Procurement
Procurement is responsible for the vision, leadership and strategic direction for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Department's procurement strategy, processes and systems.

The team aims to achieve recognised good practice procurement that complies with Government policy and state sector guidelines, including whole of life costing and sustainability.

Planning and Reporting
Planning and Reporting is responsible for Corrections' strategic and business planning and reporting processes, output/outcome monitoring and international benchmarking activities. It also monitors key performance indicators for the Department which are used for management reporting and for answering public requests for information.

The focus of this team is on ensuring Corrections complies with all external accountability requirements. This includes the preparation and production of the Corrections' Strategic Business Plan, the annual Statement of Intent and the quarterly and annual reports.

The team manages Corrections' responses to Parliament’s Law and Order Committee questions as part of the estimates and financial review exercises and also ensures (in conjunction with Corporate Finance) that external budget requirements are met.
