Policy, Strategy & Research maintains a “whole of justice sector” perspective in order to develop conceptual frameworks and high-level strategies that define, inform, and guide the development of the Department’s operational policies and practices.
The group consults widely with all groups and services within the Department, other Government agencies, the community, and international corrections and justice jurisdictions.
The main users of the group’s services are the Minister of Corrections, the Chief Executive, Senior Management and the Department’s groups and services. The group advises the Minister and Chief Executive on the appropriateness of policy initiatives, on legislative and resourcing implications and, as a particular focus, on interventions that may help to reduce re-offending.
Ensuring policies are effective for Maori and Pacific offenders in light of the ethnic make-up of the offender population is an important aspect to this advice.
The General Manager Policy, Strategy & Research is Jane von Dadelszen.
