David
Corrections Officer
I joined the Department of Corrections two and a half years ago. Previous to this I served eight years in Her Majesty's Prison Service in the UK.
I emigrated to New Zealand with my wife of 18 years and two daughters. We have found coming here was the best thing we ever did and we have no regrets.
The people we have met here are the friendliest you could ever want to meet.
I work in Medium Security Wing and although the job can be very demanding at times I work with excellent staff who make the job much easier.
I am happy with the decision I made to move and work at Corrections.
Carla
Senior Corrections Officer
I was a Corrections Officer for the last eight years and have been a Senior Corrections Officer for the last four years.
I've found that this career offers many opportunities and variety. I have worked with male adult prisoners, female prisoners and am currently based in a Youth Unit, working with teenage males.
Every day brings on new and different challenges, this is not a boring occupation. The people that I work with are like a close knit extended family, who are always there in support of fellow colleagues.
This career can be very rewarding to those who wish to make a change of career and broaden themselves.
