The Department of Corrections will inform victims of the following:

For offenders in prison

  • If the offender escapes
  • If they are released - for offenders sentenced to two years imprisonment or less
  • If an offender dies in custody
  • If an offender is temporarily released (including on release to work)
  • When an offender has an upcoming parole hearing (see New Zealand Parole Board information)

For offenders serving a community sentence

  • If the offender leaves a home detention residence unauthorised
  • If they are released from home detention
  • Applications for extended supervision orders
  • Granting of extended supervision orders
  • Death while on home detention, parole or while subject to an extended supervision order
  • Decision to make interim recall order
  • Decision to make or refuse final recall order
  • Decision to quash interim or final recall order
  • Convictions for breaching conditions of release imposed by the court or the New Zealand Parole Board
  • Convictions for breaching conditions of home detention
  • Convictions for breaching conditions of extended supervision orders
