The Awards recognise employees who demonstrate the PRIDE values of professionalism, responsiveness, integrity, diversity, and efficiency and effectiveness through their outstanding and exceptional actions and behaviour.

“We seek to foster PRIDE values at Corrections in our work; in our relationships; in ourselves; in our organisation; and in our vision, kaupapa and values,” says Barry.

The PRIDE Chief Executive Awards are an opportunity to celebrate outstanding staff actions and behaviour. Managers nominate individual staff or work teams who have demonstrated one or more of the PRIDE values in an exceptional way.

Key Network members Kimberley Simpson, Jenny Farrar-de Wagt, Royce Gordon, Tracey Rhodes, Katrina Bolger, Rebecca Shaw and Lillian Haitana provide support and mentoring to female employees working in Canterbury Prisons. The Network aims to enhance the effectiveness of female staff within Canterbury prisons while promoting the principles of equal employment opportunities and cultural responsiveness.

Richard Harrison

Waikeria Prison Corrections Officer Richard Harrison demonstrates PRIDE values through his involvement in the region, and his ability to work with a challenging client base. Richard is closely involved with ‘The Wall,’ a project that recognises and celebrates former Waikeria Prison employees who have since passed away.

Peri Mason

A Service Manager for the Community Probation Service, Peri is based in Whakatane. He demonstrates the PRIDE values through his daily work, and the way he brings people together, allowing a support network to grow. Peri champions the Tikanga Maori Programmes throughout the region, and has been instrumental in increasing the effectiveness of these programmes.

“It’s great to see these people getting involved and making a difference in Corrections,” says Barry. “They’ve set a great example as the first recipients of the PRIDE award, and I look forward to them inspiring others.”
