Brent Maughan has been appointed Corrections Inmate Employment (CIE) Manager after acting in the role for four months.

Brent began working for Corrections in 1991, when he signed on as a Corrections Officer at Mt Eden Prison. He became a Unit Manager at Christchurch Prison and then Site Manager at New Plymouth Prison before joining CIE as National Operations Manager.

CIE runs employment programmes at prisons aimed at providing prisoners with employment skills, training, and formal qualifications to assist them to gain sustainable work on release. Work experience and training is provided in fields where employment opportunities exist in the community.

Brent says he is pleased to be working with such a committed and dedicated staff and management team and is looking forward to the challenges the job will bring.

“CIE is a unique environment which requires a balance between training and business. On one hand, it is about providing meaningful work opportunities for prisoners that will lead to employment once they leave prison. On the other it is about making sure that CIE operations are commercially viable and do not compete unfairly with the private sector,” he says.

“It is a challenging but rewarding role and one I am sure I will enjoy.”
