Manurewa's purpose-built Community Probation Service centre will streamline the management of offenders in the area by bringing together staff previously working from three different locations.
The Community Probation Service centre became operational in May and sentence management, community work, parole, release on conditions and supervision are all managed from the new premises.
In addition, the Psychological Service will operate from the centre two days a week and rooms are available for Intervention Services’ rehabilitative programmes.
“The whole team is so enthusiastic about working in this purpose-designed facility,” says Service Manager Ingrid Inkster.
“We have been fully operational since day one. We are getting on-the-spot progress reports about offenders attending alcohol and drug programmes and violence-prevention programmes in the same building. Another benefit of being under the same roof is monitoring offenders serving dual sentences,” she says.
The office accommodates 20 full-time staff and eight part-time community work supervisors as well as three student (probation officer) placements.
Approximately 1,000 offenders will be managed from this site.
