Following a successful pilot in the Wellington and Waikato/Central regions, Corrections will soon advertise for 16 Reintegration Caseworkers to work with young prisoners, women prisoners and high-need mainstream prisoners to help them to achieve reintegrative objectives.
Objectives for these prisoners include finding employment and accommodation, helping resolve negative relationships and managing financial issues, the resolution of which will help them to make a smooth transition to the community on release.
Reintegration caseworkers will work with prison staff, probation officers, family/whanau, community and government agencies to help prisoners with high reintegrative needs move back into the community.
The positions became available as part of additional funding of $5 million over four years for reintegrative initiatives provided in the Government’s 2005 Budget.
