You will soon see Corrections’ new Maori name - Ara Poutama Aotearoa - incorporated into Corrections’ logo.

Communications Manager Julie McBurney says the updated logo will be progressively rolled-out throughout Corrections.

“The updated logo should soon become a familiar sight. As signage and stationery are progressively replaced, the old logo will be exchanged for the updated version,” says Julie.

It is still perfectly acceptable to use stationery with the old logo, Julie emphasises, and existing stationery should be used until supplies have been exhausted. The updated logo will be placed on all new stationery and signage orders. Signage around the country will only be replaced when it is necessary, such as through wear and tear.

“We made the conscious decision not to change all signage and stationery at once to make the transition as cost-effective as possible.”

Julie says that while some thought was given to developing an entirely new logo for Corrections, it was decided that maintaining the existing coat of arms was important.

“Incarcerating people is one of the ultimate powers of the state - and it is therefore appropriate Corrections uses the New Zealand coat of arms,” she says. Electronic versions of the updated logo can be obtained through Corrections’ Communications Unit.
