Head-office staff learning te reo Maori with Tutor Kelly Keane.
Head Office staff, including Chief Executive Barry Matthews, have jumped at the chance to develop their Maori language skills with more than 50 people applying for the 15 places on a new te reo Maori course within ten minutes of a notice going out. The eight-week lunchtime course aims to give staff more confidence using te reo, thereby acknowledging the importance of te reo and tikanga at Corrections. In response to the high demand, more beginners’ courses and possibly an intermediate course are planned for the new year. For further information contact Senior Human Resource Adviser Simon Jobson.
