FOR the Policy, Strategy and Research group of Corrections the passing of the Bill culminates more than 18 months of intensive collaboration with the Ministry of Justice and other agencies.
Providing input to the original Cabinet papers, supporting the drafting of the legislation, and participating in the inter-agency steering committee, have been among the “all-consuming” efforts of a team of 10 from the policy group. In addition the policy team has taken the lead on matrix management of the internal implementation activity.
The Manager of Sector and Legislative Policy, Bronwyn Donaldson, says the approach across Government agencies, including the Ministry of Justice, Police and the Ministry of Social Development, has been “very much a collaborative” one.
Work continues on supporting groups and services and the Ministry of Health in the planning of the Effective Intervention health projects, and on other policy work such as interventions for the increasing female prison population.
