Corrections welcomes Flash, our newest prison drug dog, to the staff.

Flash and Handler Craig Lacy now work at Spring Hill Corrections Facility searching visitors, vehicles, cells and prisoners for drugs.

“From day one he’s been brilliant to work with,” says Craig.

“He loves searching. To him it’s a big game.”

Flash and Craig have graduated from an intensive two-month training course and will attend regular on-going training sessions to ensure they don’t miss a trick.

Flash was discovered at a pound in Rotorua by Police Officer Tiny Taylor. He had suffered from mistreatment and neglect but still had a “certain spark” says Tiny.

“Flash is the ideal-sized dog to hunt for narcotics in tight spaces and jump easily in and out of vehicles,” he says.
