She might still be near the beginning of her academic career, but Chief Executive’s Scholarship 2007 winner Teresa Watson has already had a paper published in the prestigious international Journal of Forensic Psychiatry and Psychology.
Thanks to the Scholarship, Teresa says she is now taking a year off her job as an Operations Adviser for the Psychological Service to complete the final year of her Post-Graduate Diploma in Clinical Psychology.
“It’s great to be able to focus solely on my final practical year. The support provided by the Scholarship has allowed me to take a wider study focus meaning the opportunity to gain experience in diverse areas,” she says.
Teresa was one of five Corrections staff members to be awarded the Scholarship, which is given to staff to pursue their final year of study.
Chief Executive Barry Matthews says that the Scholarship is open to all full-time permanent employees to encourage them to finish their studies.
“The Scholarships are one way we can make sure Corrections has people with the skills and qualifications we need. They’re also a chance for us to give something back to staff who have proven they are excellent performers.”
Teresa agrees that any initiative that supports staff who have independently pursued further education is a great idea.
“I’d recommend anyone who is interested in completing their study make an application. The process may appear time-consuming but it’s well worth the effort,” she says.
