Hawke’s Bay Prison opened a new 13-bed At Risk Unit last month. Designed to help the prison better manage prisoners at risk of harming themselves, it is staffed by onsite registered nurses with mental health training, a forensic nurse from the Hastings District Health Board (DHB) and a psychiatrist who visits weekly. Two forensic personnel from the Gisborne DHB will also make twice weekly visits to the prisoners.
More than 115 cell phone jammers were installed in Hawke’s Bay Prison leading up and work has now begun on cell phone blocking solutions for Otago, Auckland and Manawatu Prisons.
New cell towers are being designed by Telecom and Vodafone to block calls at Rimutaka Prison Northland Region Corrections Facility.
