Stepping inside the prison gates as a new volunteer can be a daunting experience. But support is on hand to ensure the prison volunteering experience, right from the outset, is a safe and rewarding one. Michael Mee, in his first year as a prison volunteer in Christchurch, relates his experience;
“I have found the staff at the prison a great team who have always been so helpful. It is a privilege to have the opportunity to visit weekly, and be part of the ministry of helping the prisoners to get a better outlook on life and to do things that will lift their vision or goals.”
“We have a great Coordinator in Christchurch, Renee Jones, who is so helpful and is now working at bringing volunteers together socially. Recently, a group of us went to see a movie together. This way, we get to know other volunteers and staff.”
