Tena ra koutou katoa
You’ll notice some changes in this publication that reflect a recent review of Corrections’ head office structure.
CPS has become Community Probation & Psychological Services. While the change may appear in name only, the restructuring has smoothed links between different parts of our services so that we can work seamlessly and efficiently. From 1 July, all probation officers, psychologists and programme facilitators will work under CPPS.
CPPS will remain responsible for managing offenders in the community and for building and maintaining effective relationships with stakeholders such as Mäori providers and local iwi.
Later this month (July), our staff will be doing their bit to celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Mäori – Mäori Language Week. Corrections has a Te Reo Strategy to support and encourage staff to learn te reo.
This year, we’re providing handy language resources to our field staff to encourage them to use Mäori words and phrases throughout the week and beyond. We hope this will enhance our ability to connect with iwi, hapu and whänau, service providers, other agencies and with Mäori offenders.
No reira, e te iwi, nga mihi ki a koutou.
