Corrections is not able to answer all media questions about the justice sector.

It is part of the justice sector, which includes the Ministry of Justice, New Zealand Police, and the New Zealand Parole Board.

Below is a list of questions that are frequently asked by journalists from around the country. Use it to find the right justice sector agency to go to for answers.

Privacy of the individual

Before calling the Department for information, it’s important to note that, like all government agencies, Corrections is required to abide by the Privacy Act 1993. Therefore it is highly unlikely that the Department will provide information about individual offenders.

The Department will respond as fully as possible to any questions about individual offenders with general information about such things as the policies and processes that guide the Department’s work, how inmates are managed, programmes that are available and how the process of reintegration into society is managed.
