Department of Corrections Psychological Service has recently developed a training package incorporating the latest developments in the identification of future serious offending, particularly violent and sexual offending.

The training is currently being delivered to senior psychological staff, and it is anticipated that the risk assessment will help to reduce re-offending, the core function of the Department.

David Riley, Director of the Psychological Service, says "We have international and local information which supports the process of risk assessment, and we can now be much more accurate than even a couple of years ago. Most recently, we have developed a process for the identification of sex offender risk, and data analysis shows that these risk assessment processes are accurate over 5, 10 and 15 year follow up periods."

The Department of Correction's Psychological Service is part of Probation and Offender Services.
