Last week Unit Manager Michelle Clark became the first Corrections staff member to be awarded the individual Northern Regional Quality Award.
The inaugural quality awards have been introduced as a recognition of excellent work in the Northern region. The awards are to be presented each year, but only when exceptional work occurs. The site performance award was presented to the team at Auckland Prison last month.
“This award recognises the consistent and concientious effort that Michelle has made to lift the performance of several units across NRCF,” says Northern Regional Manager Warren Cummins.
“Michelle has shown a high level of leadership and dedication, and through her efforts there is a real difference in staff morale and procedural compliance at the site,” says Mr Cummins.
“NRCF houses prisoners from a range of security classifications who are undergoing intensive programmes, working and learning as they progress towards reintegrating into society. To achieve such high standards of security and safety in this environment is a testament to Michelle’s hard work,” says Mr Cummins.
Michelle Clark says she is “proud and humbled” to have received the award. “I want to acknowledge and thank the management team and staff at NRCF for their support and assistance. There is a fantastic team in place at the site, and I would not have been able to do half of what I have done without them,” she says.
The hard work put in by Ms Clark has not gone unnoticed by the new NRCF Prison Manager, Jonathan Howe.
Mr Howe has recently emigrated from the UK to work at Northland Region Corrections Facility, and it is staff members like Michelle he says, that are responsible for the high standards being developed at the site.
“I am delighted to see Michelle’s work rewarded in this way. It recognises her strong performance over the past year and gives the site something to build on for the coming year,” says Mr Howe.
“We are working to continually improve NRCF, and with staff like Michelle leading the charge I have every confidence that the site will continue to go from strength to strength.”
