Corrections today announced that G4S New Zealand Ltd has been selected as the preferred provider of electronic monitoring and related services for offenders subject to Home Detention, Parole and Extended Supervision throughout New Zealand from 2 November 2009.
Corrections Chief Executive Barry Matthews said under the new arrangement G4S will provide Corrections with electronic monitoring and related services for offenders to 30 June 2012. The contract includes a further two-year option under the same terms and conditions.
The decision followed an international tender to provide electronic monitoring and related services for offenders subject to Home Detention, Parole and Extended Supervision.
Chubb and their subcontractor First Security will continue to provide the services for all offenders subject to Home Detention, Parole and Extended Supervision until 2 November 2009.
From 2 November 2009 all new offenders will be monitored by G4S. A transition process from Chubb to G4S will occur for existing offenders, this process is expected be completed by mid-December 2009.
Mr Matthews said G4S’ tender offered a number of advantages, including lower cost.
