27 August
Community Probation Services staff in Hastings and Napier are holding a charity walk on Saturday 28 August to support a colleague whose son has lymphoma cancer.
CPS Assistant Area Manager Hawkes Bay, Raymond Clark, said staff were walking to Clive from both the CPS Service Centre in Ellison Road, Hastings, and from the Bower Street Service Centre in Napier.
Clive is almost 10 kilometres from each Service Centre so it’s a perfect place for both groups to finish the walk.
Around 20 staff from each Service Centre will take part in the walk, which is aiming to raise funds for Joel Ambler, whose father John is a Senior Community Work Supervisor at the Hastings Service Centre.
Raymond says that John has had to leave his job so that his family can reolocate to Auckland to be near to family support and Starship Hospital for Joel’s medical treatment.
“Staff have really got behind this cause, in addition to the charity walks, many staff have been doing their own fundraising, with one staff member alone raising $600 of sponsorship.
“We’ve also received a lot of help from local businesses who have donated goods for us to sell at a charity auction. Watties have given us a backpack, BBQ kit and cooler bag and other businesses have donated electrical goods for us to sell. Staff have also donated goods for the auction.”
John says he’s overwhelmed by his colleagues generosity. “We’ve always been a community minded organisation, but I’m still amazed by the efforts of my colleagues to help my family. It’s going to be really nice joining them tomorrow and meeting up with everyone in Clive so I can personally thank them for all their assistance and support.”
