A new site for the Community Probation Services (CPS) Centre in Flaxmere has been found that will meet the community’s requirements and allow CPS to deliver services in the area.
Community Probation Services General Manager Katrina Casey said the service centre will now be located in Wilkes Place in Western Flaxmere.
“Thanks to the commitment of Hastings District Council and Department staff, and due to the significant good will from Flaxmere residents, we have been successful in finding a new site in Wilkes Place for the Community Probation Service Centre development."
Ms Casey said the decision was a great result for CPS and the people of Flaxmere.
“We’re very happy with Wilkes Place as the location of our service centre, it’s close to the local Marae, is a good size and meets all our requirements. Importantly this site has support from the community and the council, and we look forward to working together as the project moves ahead.”
Ms Casey said that while the process to find a suitable site had been long and involved it was important to find a site that met the service’s goals.
“Over the last few months Corrections had identified over ten potential sites for the location of a Community Probation Services Centre in Flaxmere and had spent considerable time and effort in finding the most suitable site – at the end of the day this effort has been worth it.
“We needed to ensure CPS had a presence in Flaxmere so that we could more effectively manage offenders in the local area. We believe our service centres do a good job at making communities safer, they are staffed by hard working people who are part of the community and want the best for the residents of Flaxmere.”
Ms Casey said a resource consent process will need to be undertaken by the developer before any next steps can occur, and subject to this being granted the Department estimates that the site can be operational by the end of this year.
