Minister for Corrections, Anne Tolley officially opened the refurbished Lower Hutt Community Corrections site at Market Grove.

The site has been refurbished at a total cost of $957,000.

Thirty nine staff work at the site, which manages around 460 offenders.

The site now provides a safer environment for staff, with the refurbishment including a dedicated community work centre, a multi-purpose room for on-site training and enhanced safety provisions for staff with CCTV, duress signals and glass interview rooms.

Facilities at the site are available for partner agencies and providers to deliver training and rehabilitation programmes.

Corrections staff at the site make sure offenders comply with their sentences. They also work with offenders to improve their family relationships, get help for alcohol and drug problems, seek stable employment and encourage them to live a crime-free life.
