Action

1

Complete each section of the report.

If a short report is no longer appropriate then a full assessment must be undertaken.

If there is insufficient time before sentencing to complete the report, then either:

  • make another time with the offender to undertake a full report interview, or
  • write a memorandum to the court outlining why a further remand is required to allow for a more detailed report on the offender.

Note: Reasons and evidence for doing this must be clearly stated.

3

Attach all the appropriate documents, including an appendix for community detention, if canvassed .

4

Ensure the offender has the opportunity to receive a copy of the report before sentencing and advise if there are inaccuracies in the report.

5

Finalise the report in IOMS and enter any issues related to sentence management in IOMS casenotes.

6

Complete the offender information report if any issues related to safety concerns or sentence management are identified during the assessment process.

7

Make copies of the report and distribute according to the guidelines contained in this volume

For more information, go to Distribution of Reports.

8

Present the report to court within the required timeframe.
