Social and cultural factors

If HD or CD is being canvassed in the report, detailed information about the proposed residence and/or relevant occupants will be contained in the appendix. Therefore these details need only be mentioned briefly in this section of the report.

What to include

Describe and include evidence on the following social and cultural factors.

Under...	Include...
domestic situation (key relationships)	people offender lives with accommodation family support financial situation income and outgoings, and significant debts and fines.
employment	employment status (full, part-time, contract, self-employed) history, type and length of employment, and if unemployed, how long for?
leisure activities	any relevant to offending or offender's ability to comply with sentence.
health	physical or mental - only if these are relevant to the offending or the offender's ability to comply with the sentence, and if relevant, medical care they are receiving.
use of alcohol and/or other drugs	brief summary of any addiction issues.
community support networks	key relationships and support people (if not already covered).
cultural issues	anything relevant to the offending or the offender's ability to comply with the sentence.
gang affiliations	if any known affiliations.

Identifying as Maori

If the offender identifies as Maori this should be noted in the report. If the offender is willing to give iwi, hapu and/or whanau links, these should also be noted.

Sourcing and verification

Ensure information is attributed to its source, especially when using information from employers, partners and significant others.

All information must be verified where possible.
