When the judge requests oral information that can be provided immediately, do so without using a front cover sheet.

If a short assessment report is to be provided:

  • note the information as outlined in the earlier section on information for front cover sheets, and
  • indicate the expected time the report will be returned to the court.

When the report has been completed, ensure that the lawyer (if the offender is represented), judge, offender and court officer have a copy of the report.

Be ready for questions

Become familiar with the contents of the report in order to answer any questions from the judge. Ensure the offender has read the report before sentencing.
