Guidelines

The following are guidelines for tasks to be performed using the computer in the courtroom.

Task

Action

Court list Bring up the appropriate court list in IOMS. Maintain the list as a 'home base' when navigating through IOMS.
Tracking defendants Use the offender header, sentence/order management screen and IOMS case notes to locate information that may be of use to the court as defendants are called.
Emails

Use the email system to inform other court-based staff of information or resources that may be required in the courtroom.

Where possible, communicate with supervising probation officers regarding on-strength offenders appearing that day.

Computer security

Take steps to keep information in the computer as secure as possible, including:

  • shielding, or angling the screen away from the public gallery
  • ensuring the screen is locked prior to leaving the courtroom temporarily
  • logging off the computer when finally leaving the court, and
  • ensuring all passwords are kept secure.
