The offender is typically interviewed as part of the assessment for the parent report. Probation officers will interview the offender for pre-sentence reports and prison service staff will interview the offender during the parole assessment process.

For more information about interviewing the offender, go to Canvassing Home Detention (HD) or Community Detention (CD) with the Offender.

Re-sentencing to HD from imprisonment

In the case of HD re-sentencing reports, the offender will not usually be re-interviewed. It is assumed that most enquiries made regarding the offender will have been made during pre-sentence enquiries, and remain relevant for the re-sentencing process.

The offender will provide details of their proposed HD address in the application for re-sentence. Further relevant enquiries relating to the offender's behaviour and progress in prison may involve:

  • discussions with the offender's case manager, and
  • reviewing prison service information.
