Introduction

This chapter outlines the purpose, principles and stages of the pre-release process.

The pre-release process aims to:

  • prepare an offender for release following a long term of imprisonment
  • plan for the offender's reintegration into the community when they are released
  • develop a workable and robust release proposal for all offenders being considered for release
  • provide the New Zealand Parole Board (NZPB) with a report to assist in making an informed decisions about an offender's possible release.
