The email must contain:
- the name and PRN of the offender
- the name and contract details of the probation officer who has been allocated the pre-parole liaison
- a request for a return email with the name of the sentence planner who has been allocated the pre-parole liaison.

Establishing the pre-parole liaison strategy
The table below outlines the steps for establishing the pre-parole liaison strategy.

Identify key prison-based staff who are or will be involved with the offender and determine the extent of their involvement with the offender.
Check to see if the reintegration caseworker is working with the offender.
If not, and the offender has high level of re-integrative needs, make an urgent referral to the reintegration caseworker.
If the offender does not have a high level of reintegrative needs proceed to the next step.

- who the key prison-based staff that will be involved with the offender
- the activities they will be undertaking.

- file information about the offender.

- issues, concerns and gaps in the offender's release proposal

Notify the psychologist of the pre-parole strategy and any actions required of them if:
- psychological treatment is being considered
- the offender is involved in psychological treatment or assessment (including that through special treatment units).

On receiving the pre-parole liaison strategy, confirm that prison-based tasks can be carried out.
If you can carry out or organise the required tasks, then notify the probation officer immediately and discuss how these might be progressed.
Note: It is expected that prison-based tasks will be delegated to the most appropriate prison-based staff. Probation officers are not expected to know who these tasks should be delegated to.
