Introduction 

Parole assessment reports are the third stage in the pre-release process.  They are prepared by the Department of Corrections, for the New Zealand Parole Board (NZPB).

The purpose of parole assessment reports is to assist the NZPB to make an informed decision about an offender's possible release from prison.
