Introduction

This chapter outlines the process for writing an extended supervision (ES) special conditions report to the New Zealand Parole Board (NZPB).

Once the court imposes an ES order, the NZPB may, upon application by a probation officer, impose special conditions.

Legislative reference: Section 107K Parole Act 2002.

Purpose

The purpose of the ES special conditions report is to identify the offender's risks and propose special conditions to mitigate these risks using the least intrusive means of monitoring and intervention necessary. The report must clearly set out the rationale for the special conditions recommended.

Requirement

For every offender subject to an ES order, a probation officer must write a report to determine what, if any, special conditions are recommended. The ES coordinator at the head office will advise the relevant probation officer that a report is required.
