Community Probation & Psychological Services (CPPS) is responsible for preparing a report concerning the:

  • proposed arrangements for the inmate's leave, and
  • impact this may have on the victim(s).

Home leave sponsors

Whenever an inmate is released on home leave, they must have a sponsor. This person is responsible for ensuring the inmate complies with the requirements of home leave.

Process to prepare report

The following table shows the basic process of preparing a home leave report.

Description

Prison Services (PS):

  • requests a home leave report for a particular inmate, and
  • advises details of the proposed sponsor for the leave.

The probation officer interviews the proposed sponsor to:

  • explain in full the responsibilities of the sponsor during the leave, and
  • obtain the information about the arrangements requested by the prison.

The probation officer:

  • interviews the victim(s) if appropriate, and
  • considers the risk/reaction from the community.

The probation officer prepares a report and submits it to the manager of the prison.

The prison advises the inmate and sponsor whether the leave has been granted.


Note: The prison may raise particular queries in the request. CPPS must answer all of these queries in the report.

Completion deadline

CPPS must complete the home leave report within 10 working days of receipt (or as agreed in the service agreement with the particular prison).
