Introduction

This topic outlines the steps to take to de-install and recover the EM equipment at the completion of CD.

Timeframe

The de-installation and recovery of EM equipment must occur as soon as possible and practicable after the completion of the final curfew period.

Note: It need not necessarily occur immediately following the conclusion of the final curfew period, especially where this is outside of normal working hours.

Who is responsible?

The senior community work supervisor is responsible for the de-installation and recovery of the EM equipment, regardless of whether the offender is also subject to concurrent sentences.

If the offender is also subject to supervision or intensive supervision, then the supervising probation officer must:

  • liaise with the senior community work supervisor to determine a suitable time for the de-installation and recovery of the EM equipment at least one week before this is required, and
  • advise the senior community work supervisor of any obligations the offender still has to their concurrent sentence of supervision or intensive supervision.
Steps to take

The following table outlines the steps to take to de-install and recover the EM equipment.

Step Action

1

Meet with the offender in accordance with the ITR issued for de-installation at the curfew address

Note:  Remember to take the completed sentence completion report and one copy of the report for the offender if the report needs to be finalised at this time

2

If the offender is still subject to a concurrent sentence, remind them of their obligations to that sentence.

3

  • Remove the offender’s anklet and the home monitoring unit (HMU)
  • confirm that they understand they are no longer subject to CD, and
  • leave the curfew address.

4

Notify the monitoring company and return the EM equipment (see below)

Notifying the monitoring company & returning the EM equipment

Once the EM equipment has been de-installed and recovered, the senior community work supervisor must ensure that they return the equipment to the monitoring company as soon as possible, and where practical on the day of the de-installation and recovery.

The monitoring company should be advised using the CD4 EM Equipment Return Form.

The following table outlines the steps to take to return the equipment to the monitoring company.

Step Action

1

Place the monitoring equipment in the courier box supplied with the equipment.

2

Affix the address slip and pre-supplied courier ticket.

3

Complete the CD4 EM Equipment Return Form and email it to the monitoring company to arrange dispatch of the courier for pick-up of the equipment.

4

When the courier arrives, give them the courier box.

5

Record in IOMS casenotes:

  • the date and time contact was made with the monitoring company, and
  • the date and time the equipment was given to the courier.
