Purpose

In undertaking the CPPS employment verification check, CPPS staff are not required to undertake a full employment check. Staff are to check the proposed employment in terms of successful reintegration of the offender back into the community.

When undertaking the proposed employment check, staff will need to consider the risk of re-offending and public safety.

Factors to consider

CPPS staff will be required to consider:

  1. the type of employment being considered, and
  2. the location of the proposed employment.

Against these two factors, staff need to consider the following:

  • The offender???s special conditions (CPPS liaison staff will be given PS IOMS observation access to download special conditions), if there are any, and check that any proposed employment does not interfere with the successful completion of the order.
  • The offender???s criminal history, and check if the proposed employment has real potential for the offender to be placed in a high risk situation which could lead to re-offending.
  • Ensure that any proposed employment does not interfere with any identified rehabilitative needs. For example, an offender with an identified gambling need may not be suitable for working in employment where gaming machines feature prominently.
  • Are there any issues with the offender being on the victim notification register (VNR)?
  • Any other issues that may be considered to be risk factors.
