Introduction

This topic outlines the role and responsibilities of the monitoring company, and describes how EM works.

Monitoring company responsibilities

The monitoring company is responsible for:

  • setting up and maintaining equipment
  • continuous monitoring of the offender while in the designated location (e.g. residence or work) during a curfew period
  • responding to all electronic alarms
  • reporting violations to CPPS
  • manual monitoring of offenders on approved absences as requested
  • ancillary services as requested (e.g. completing affidavits, giving evidence), and
  • other miscellaneous services such as adjusting the bracelet and pre-installation checks.
Roles of the monitoring company

The following table outlines the roles of the monitoring company.

Role

Description

monitoring

Staff:

  • monitor the central database, and
  • respond to electronic alarms as and when they occur.

officers

Security officers:

  • attend call-outs to the offender???s residence
  • connect and disconnect equipment
  • maintain equipment
  • investigate alarms, and
  • undertake manual monitoring as requested.

administration

Staff:

  • enter all information and requests from CPPS into the central database, and
  • have overall responsibility for managing electronic monitoring services.
