Steps to Take

Follow these steps for an offender subject to:

  • home detention (HD)
  • parole with residential restrictions (RR)
  • extended supervision with RR

Reference: For community detention sentence completion processes see Volume 3B, Part VI Community Detention Completion Processes.

Step
Action
1 Identify the EM release day.
2 Notify the monitoring company of termination on the EM Disconnection Request (DISC01) to request removal of monitoring equipment at least two working days before the date when the monitoring equipment must be removed.
3 If required, notify the local 24-hour police station of termination 24 hours before the release date.
4

If the offender is subject to other sentences or orders, issue the offender with a written instruction to report (ITR) to the appropriate probation office.

Example: Transitioning from HD to post-detention conditions.

5

Ensure that the offender is aware of the actual termination date, and the time at which the monitoring company will arrive to remove the equipment.

Note: it is best to have the equipment removed as early as possible that day.

6 A probation officer must be at the residence when the equipment is removed by the monitoring company.
7

Confirm that the offender understands that they are either:

  • released without further sentence/order conditions, or
  • required to report to the named probation officer as instructed.
