How to close the interview
The interview is closed by ensuring that the offender is clear about what is now required of them and what the next step or action is to be.
Ensure that the offender:
- has been given a copy of the serving time in the community booklet and the relevant sentence information sheets, and
- has signed and been issued with an appropriate ITR in accordance with their sentence/order.
The probation officer should:
- follow up any safety issues, including any referrals or notifications to other agencies
- note any safety/risk alerts in IOMS
- update IOMS with any changes in the offender's details
- record in IOMS casenotes that induction has been completed, plus any action taken
- record any missing or incomplete documents in the induction checklist for follow up by the supervising probation officer
- ensure forms and records produced during the induction interview are stored in the appropriate place (file and IOMS), and
- create a report in record in IOMS and confirm if the offender reported within timeframes required.
Note: If managing dual sentences, record IOMS casenotes in one sentence/order and make a reference in the other sentence/order notes.
Record keeping
All paper records must be filed on the offender's file. IOMS records must be updated immediately.
