CWCs are closed at specified times each year to ensure that the sentence is administered equitably. This topic details the occasions of such closures.
CWCs are closed during the following times:

Election/referendum |
CWCs close early at 3.00 pm on the day of any:

Christmas / New Year |
CWCs are closed over the two-week period covering Christmas/New Year. Centres can re-open progressively as staff become available. CWCs must be fully operational by the third week of January. |

Other statutory holidays |
CWCs are closed for the day. This includes the Provincial Anniversary Day for the area in which the CWC is located. |
On any occasion the CWC is to be closed as described above, all offenders that have been directed to report on the closure day(s) must be notified no later than one week prior to the closure.
Follow this procedure to notify offenders of the closure of the CWC.

Issue each offender that would report on the day(s) the CWC will be closed with a written notice stating:

If the offender’s next reporting day, after the day of closure, is not their usual reporting day, issue a new direction to report. |

File the following documents in the offender file for each offender: a copy of the notice, and the original of the direction to report. |
