Introduction

This topic deals with the rules for transport arrangements for work projects.

Legislative reference: Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992.

Transport arrangements

Any work party working on a project away from the CWC is provided with:

  • a vehicle, normally a van, and
  • (if appropriate) a trailer.
Transport of tools

Tools may not be transported loose inside a vehicle. Tools must be securely transported in a trailer to prevent risk of injury to offenders or other road users.

Offenders may not drive

Under no circumstance may the community work supervisor permit an offender to drive the vehicle provided for the work party.

No use of project sponsor’s vehicle

CPPS staff may under no circumstances accept any offer from the project sponsor of:

  • use of a vehicle owned by the project sponsor
  • donation of fuel, or
  • operation of any vehicle at a work project.
Use of vehicle as shelter

In wet weather or a civil emergency, the community work supervisor may direct the offenders to take shelter in the CWC’s vehicle.
