Introduction

This topic covers information and guidelines for managing an offender’s attendance.

Attendance record

The CWA should complete the offender's attendance record on each scheduled attendance day, and return it weekly.

Recording

On receipt of the attendance record, enter the details into the offender’s records in IOMS and file the paper copy in the offender’s file.

Hours should be recorded weekly so the total number of hours outstanding is known. This is needed:

  • if the offender appears in court on further charges where further community work may be imposed
  • for monitoring and enforcement of the sentence if hours are not being completed, and
  • to enable calculation of remission and end of sentence.
Exceptions

If it is local practice (rural locations) for the CWA to return the daily attendance records fortnightly or monthly:

  • contact the CWA by phone weekly for confirmation of hours, and
  • update attendance hours and performance ratings weekly in IOMS.
Failure to report/late reporting

Failure to report on a scheduled attendance day must be reported and recorded on the attendance record.

If the CWA advises that the offender is failing to report, or arriving late, interview the offender to determine the reasons for lateness/failure to report. If the offender gives no reasonable excuse then consider enforcement action.
