Introduction

The intention of monitoring placements is to maintain the integrity of the community work sentence, by monitoring the offender and the agency. This topic gives guidelines for monitoring agency placements.

Purpose of visits

During the placement, in addition to receiving the daily attendance reports, undertake regular checks/visits to the CWA to:

  • maintain the relationship between the agency and CPPS
  • confirm the offender's attendance and work progress
  • ensure the offender is undertaking approved work
  • monitor health and safety to ensure that the risk to the offender and the Department of Corrections is minimised (including safe use of tools), and
  • monitor the offender's skill development.

Note: Ensure links are maintained with each agency in order to be aware of any changes in personnel.

Frequency of visits

The frequency of visits to CWAs should be determined by:

  • the number of offenders at the agency
  • the agency’s history with Department of Corrections and level of reliability, and
  • the location of the agency.

Notes:

  • Any agency taking offenders on a regular basis should be visited fortnightly.

  • Offenders’ attendance records can be collected during these visits.
