Role of probation officer

When the offender informs the probation officer/senior community work supervisor he/she wishes to make an application to the court regarding the sentence, the probation officer/senior community work supervisor should:

  • remain neutral with respect to the application
  • advise the offender to seek legal advice
  • advise the offender to make an application through the court registrar
  • if required, make submissions regarding the application, and
  • provide on-strength information for the hearing date.
