Introduction

This topic outlines the appropriate steps to take when an offender has received another sentence.

Imprisonment

If the offender has satisfactorily completed a portion of their BWLS and then becomes unable to complete the remainder of the sentence due to imprisonment, and their CW sentence has been suspended, then their BWLS component should also be suspended.

Once the CW sentence is reactivated, the BWLS component is resumed, subject to:

  • the availability of the appropriate training programme, and
  • a review of the offender risk.

If the BWLS component cannot be resumed, due to no fault of the offender, then the BWLS hours that were completed prior to the sentence being suspended are counted against their CW hours.

Other subsequently imposed sentences

Where the offender receives a further sentence to be served concurrently with the CW sentence, the suitability of continuing with BWLS programme may need to be reassessed. This should be done in consultation with staff involved in the management of the new, and any other, sentences.
