Introduction

This topic explains how to record the outcome from the BWLS programme, and (where appropriate) credit an offender’s BWLS hours against their CW sentence.

Steps to take

The following table outlines the steps to take to credit an offender’s BWLS hours.

Step

Action

1

The service manager:
  • reviews the BWLS completion report
  • approves or revises (and approves) the recommendations, and
  • returns the completion report to the senior community work supervisor or probation officer.

2

  • The administration officer, senior community work supervisor or probation officer copies and pastes the approved BWLS completion report into IOMS casenotes.

3

If the decision was to count the BWLS hours, the administration officer, senior community work supervisor or probation officer updates the BWLS hours in IOMS via the report in screen with a “report type” of BWLS.

Note: To do this, enter the BWLS hours retrospectively, to show the hours completed on each day of the BWLS programme.

4

The senior community work supervisor or probation officer notifies the offender of the decision (to count or not count the BWLS hours) in writing.

Note: If the offender is not satisfied with the decision, then the CPPS complaints procedure is followed.
