Introduction

Personal information about certain child sex offenders may be disclosed to the Ministry of Social Development, New Zealand Police, Housing New Zealand Corporation and Department of Child, Youth and Family Services, with whom the Department of Corrections has the Agreement for Sharing Information.

The purpose of the disclosure of personal information about child sex offenders under the Agreement for Sharing Information between the Community Probation Service and the specified agencies is to:

  • monitor compliance by the offender with his or her release conditions, home detention conditions, conditions of a sentence of supervision, or conditions of an extended supervision order
  • manage the risk that the offender may commit further sexual offences against children
  • identify any increased risk that the offender may breach his or her conditions or will commit further sexual offences against children, and;
  • facilitate reintegration of the offender into the community.

This section outlines the procedures involved. The type of information that can be shared with the specified agencies is found in the Schedules of the Agreement for Sharing Information About CSO.
