Introduction

Working with offenders who have been convicted of offences involving domestic violence is complex. The probation officer must:

  • be aware of the requirements of safe practice
  • know appropriate referral procedures, and
  • have access to practice support, including professional supervision of their practice and ongoing training and practice development.

It is important that probation officers are not required to manage cases beyond their level of expertise.

In this chapter

This chapter contains the following topics.

  • Introduction to Domestic Violence
  • Domestic Violence Rules 1996
  • Police Safety Orders
  • Protection Orders
  • Interagency Protocols
