Introduction

This chapter contains the policy and guidelines for meeting the responsibilities and restrictions imposed on the activities of Community Probation Service by the Official Information Act 1982.

Purpose of Official Information Act

The Official Information Act 1982 is designed to:

  • make official information available to the people of New Zealand to enable them to participate more fully in the affairs of the country
  • make ministers and officials more accountable, and
  • provide proper access for each person to official information relating to them.

Abbreviation

In this chapter, the Official Information Act 1982 is called the “OIA” for ease of reference.
