Introduction

Demand for pre-sentence reports fluctuates. CPS may put contingencies in place to meet its Service Level Agreement with the Department for Courts for timeliness for pre-sentence reports.

Contingencies

These contingencies are:

  • completing Level 2 reports only on offenders above the RoC*RoI cut-off, with no application of the business rules, and
  • completing only Level 1 reports on all offenders for a short period of time.

Regional Manager agreement required

A contingency can only be put into place at an individual site with the agreement of the Regional Manager.

All other alternatives should be considered first.

If a site-specific contingency is expected to last longer than a month, then the issue should be dealt with at a national level.

People to advise

CPS should advise the following people if the contingency is to be actioned.

The above people should be advised of:

  • specific contingency
  • timeframe (expected start and finish), and
  • estimated impact on volumes, eg. how many POs, how many PSRs.

National contingencies

The CPS should implement national contingencies following consultation with PPS and allow PPS the opportunity to determine the impact of that contingency upon their operations.
